school counselors help students build bright futures

Margo Rivera - School Counselor

What is a school counselor?

School counselors are people parents and students can turn to when you need help and they provide resources to help children get the most out of school. They assist students with all types of problems. For example, they can help if a child is:

  • being bullied at school
  • struggling with classwork and needs extra help
  • new to the school and doesn't have friends yet
  • upset about a family problem, such as divorce or death of a loved one
  • having trouble concentrating in the classroom

Many school counselors visit classrooms to teach lessons about feelings, study skills, friendship skills, or dealing with bullying. It's a good idea to know the counselor, even if you don't need any help right now.
